Cultural stuff, basically.
Let's see. For newcomers to my complete series (Atellacecu), each continent of Atellacecu is going to be a different series, so there will be 9 series in all. Diaulopik is the one that I'm going to write first, and the main story (also my NaNoWriMo story) is "Teras: Delusions of Grandeur". Next year for National Novel Writing Month, I'm going to be writing the main story of Alloserupahk, which is sadly untitled, but I do have some plot ideas.
Continents of Atellacecu (Uh-tehl-uh-KAY-kew)-
Diaulopik (DEE-ow-lohp-ick) [Western hemisphere, southwestern quadrant]
Alloserupahk (Ah-loh-SAYR-yu-pahk) [Western hemisphere, northwestern quadrant]
Ruonatibas (Rue-ah-NAH-tih-bahs) [Western hemisphere, northeastern quadrant]
Aromatemikep (Ah-roe-mah-TEH-mih-kehp) [Western/Eastern hemisphere, center]
Idihdemo (Ihd-ih-deh-moe) [Eastern hemisphere, center]
Redumartibur (Reh-due-mahr-tih-beur) [Eastern hemisphere, southeast]
Muimerotip (Moo-ih-mur-ooh-tihp) [Eastern hemisphere, southwest]
Laeugeo (Lie-uh-jee-oh) [Eastern hemisphere, northwest]
Retasid (Reht-uh-sihd) [Eastern hemisphere, northeast]
Regions of Diaulopik-
Nodaiokia (Noh-day-OHK-ya) [South]- Rainforest covering the entire southern region of Diaulopik. The only civilization in the entire rainforest is near the very southern tip, a village called Teras. It is always dark in the village because it is located under the thick canopy of Nodaiokia. The native Teras residents are very isolated from the outside world, and only the people who are over 20 years old know that there is more to the world than just Teras. They have seventeen gods that they worship (although many villagers focus on one and include the rest in a general group) and they believe that only the village elders can contact them, so they go to them to pray. If a Teras couple has a male child, his name will end in "-ne". If the child is female, her name will end in "-a". Reperoi, Teras natives, have either blue, lavender, jade, violet, or dark orange skin, and their hair colour is either pink, black, brown, red, or navy blue. Their skin markings can be any colour. Teras's main language, Noitaclin, is based on Ucuhpna's Irotaclin, with just a few changes. The weapons that they use in Nodaiokia are mainly spears made of wood with sharpened wood on the end of them. Most people die before they reach 70 (despite the average life expectancy of all Reperoi who have not died due to diseases was 772) because there are so many diseases. Teras's general decisions are brought up by townsfolk to the elders, who will then rule on a decision. Significant characters from Nodaiokia: Lewsne [LEW-snay] (m), Sciona [Ski-OH-nuh] (f), Nia [NEE-uh] (f)
Ucuhpna (Uh-CUHP-nuh) [Southwest]- Right on the edge of Nodaiokia, Ucuhpna is the most technologically enhanced part of Diaulopik, and people from the other continents come for trade. Because the metropolis of Ucuhpna is so desirable to live in, there are many mixed races, which means there is a large variety of hair and skin colour. The only way to get the skin colour of Reperoi, however, is to crossbreed, because the Reperoi have never been to Ucuhpna, and most have never heard of it. Ucuhpna residents are mostly nocturnal and all live in apartments. In the daytime, it seems like a ghost town, but at night, when the moon rises and shines off of the buildings, the entire region seems to glow. Many religions are present in Ucuhpna. The people living there usually believe in the same god(s) that their parents did, and most pray directly to their god(s). Irotaclin is Ucuhpna's language, and is the universal language of Atellacecu. The weapons that they use in Ucuhpna are guns, pop-up knives, and lasers. Most diseases have been cured, and the average life expectancy is 1,648 years because the air is so clean and the technology is so advanced and the maximum security prison, Idharnara, is just outside of the metropolis. Ucuhpna has one ruler, a man named Erranat Sharnalbakior. Significant character(s) from Ucuhpna: Bolasjar [BOHL-ahs-jar] (m), Kateri [KAH-tir-ee] (f)
Enotaipe (Ee-noh-TAI-pay) [West]- A desert region full of many deserted towns. Almost everyone living there perished due to several large sandstorms that pulverized their land. "Lost" spirits are plentiful in Enotaipe, and if a person is journeying through it, strange things are bound to happen. The souls that were left behind often haunt journeyers if they happen to pass through it, but most are bound to the region where they died. There is only one town with living people in it, and there are only 72 people living there. They are more in-tune with nature. They have the ability of predicting sandstorms and other natural disasters and they can actually touch the ghosts because their main god, Penelrema (goddess of death), has given them that power in order for them to help the lost souls find their final resting place. People only live about 73 years in exchange for that ability, however. Significant character(s) from Enotaipe: Aelan [Ai-LAHN] (f)
Kolborats (KAHL-bore-ahts) [Northwest]- Kolborats (KAHL-bore-ahts) [Northwest]- This region has small villages scattered around it. It's snowy all year round, but it's not too incredibly cold. The people living in Kolborats don't have a very large variety in skin colour or hair colour. Their skin is either light pink, red violet, or lavender, and their hair colour is either black, dark purple, or dark pink, depending on what colour their parents' hair/skin is. Their ears are pointed downwards, but their big coats covering everything from their head all the way down to their mid-thigh makes it difficult to see their ears. If a Kolborats couple has a female baby, the child's name will end with "-r". If the child is male, his name will end with "-ey". Sometimes, if their parents want a more neutral name (or if they're not sure what the child is at birth), the child's name will end with "-n". They cannot wait until after birth to name the baby, because they think of indecision as a very sinful thing. The buildings are made of woods and most are cabins, although there is the occasional strip of stores. They speak Irotaclin, and they believe that they are the chosen ones and that the Leponora are their personal gods. They don't live very long due to plagues constantly attacking their villages, and they have wooden weapons with a large sharpened stone at the end. Each of Kolborats' villages have a separate mayor ranging from extremely strict to very laid-back. Significant character(s) from Kolborats: Becainvar [Beh-CAYN-vahr] (f), Scarir [Scah-REER] (f), Aropiey [Ah-ROH-pee-ei] (m), Konacur [KOHN-ah-coor] (f), Gherin [Geh-REEN] (f)
Iosat (EE-oh-saht) [North]- Known as "The Icelands" to everyone else in Diaulopik, and hardly anyone goes there unless it's a very warm summer day, because they are afraid that they will freeze to death in the icy region before they ever reach the city of Weuglaeso, an icy refuge for Leponora, people that have dolphin-like tailfins, light blue skin, and shiny silver or white hair. They have legs as well, which are very strong because they need to hold up so much extra weight. The buildings and pretty much everything else in Weuglaeso are all made of ice by the Leponora. Their language, Periosaclin, is foreign to everyone but select researchers who have studied their culture for years upon years. Leponora are the only organisms capable of living in Iosat, other than the researchers who have specific equipment to help them not to freeze, of course. The Kolborats worship the Leponora as gods and goddesses, because Kolborats is not too warm for them to visit on occasion, although they will get sick if they stay too long. Because of these visits, they also have learned to speak Irotaclin. When they leave, however, they collect many things from Kolborats because they grant "miracles" to some of the overfaithful residents and get an abundance of gifts in return. They don't believe in gods, because they are immortal, unless they get sick or are beheaded. They will die in either case. They don't age past an appearance of 30 years. They only get sick if they are in an environment that is not cold enough for them, because their bodies have built up an immunity to everything else. They have a utopian society, in control of everyone, and because they are satisfied with their lives, there is hardly any controversy. Significant character(s) from Iosat: Lianifor [Lee-AHN-ee-fuhr] (m), Ishmaflen [ISH-muh-flehn] (m)
Retsiona (Reht-see-OH-nuh) [East]- A bustling harbour town on the eastern coastline of Diaulopik where somehow, everyone taking up residence in the city knows one another. This is where all imports come in and exports leave. The other regions pay a small price in order for things to be shipped to other continents and to receive things internationally. Opiuniti, the native Retsiona residents, have very light off-white skin, dark green, blue, or brown hair, and their ears look like fish fins. There are no conventional ways in naming children in Retsiona, it is completely random. Although some names have an assumed gender, most names are completely neutral. Most Opiuniti do not believe in gods or goddesses. They believe that they control their own fates. Others, however, are skeptics, overly religious, or believe in one or more gods/goddesses. The average life expectancy is around 520 years. Irotaclin is their native language, and they have a mayor and panel of appointees that make all governmental decisions. Significant character(s) from Retsiona: Giacia [Gee-uh-KEE-uh] (f), Letadaros [Leh-TAH-dah-rohs] (f), Merereshon [Meh-REH-reh-shahn] (m)
Lagium (LUH-jee-uhm) [Southeast]- A decent-sized city, Lagium is famous for its beautiful sandy beaches. The majority of its buildings are inns and hotels, because the tourism rate is so high. The city of Lagium is almost as advanced as Ucuhpna, but not quite. They rely on the sea to supply their medicine, whereas Ucuhpna can just clone new things. Lagium scientists don't believe in artificial reproduction, so although they probably could accomplish it, it's just not how it works. The people from Lagium are light brown in complexion with pastel-coloured markings. Their hair is either black, brown, red, orange, gold, or silver, and their ears are pointed slightly up and are long but slim. If a Lagium couple has a male child, his name ends with "-mer". If the child is female, her name ends with "arc". They believe that since life is short (their average life expectancy is 427 years), they should have as much fun as they possibly can. Most believe in the gods but don't go to church. Although they have a tiny accent, everyone speaks Irotaclin. They have a mayor, but nothing really bad happens in Lagium, so hardly any laws need to get passed. Significant character(s) from Lagium: Shaarc [Shark] (f), Arametmer [Ah-rah-MAYT-murr] (m), Gliabismer [Glee-uh-BIHZ-murr] (m)
Lineidir (Lih-NAY-durr) [Central]- Grasslands littered with small towns and villages cut off from the other regions by a large river. They use shanalon carriages as their transportation and they mainly trade with other villages in Lineidir. Sometimes citizens of Retsiona will bring gifts and exotic foods to Lineidir to sell, and sometimes villagers will go to Retsiona and buy things for their village and then come back. The problem with this is that foods often spoil, so it has been ruled that no spoilable food can come across the border between Retsiona and Lineider. People living there have dark green or red violet skin and dark blue markings. Their hair is usually either silver, brown, or black, but dyed hair is also acceptable, and since it takes longer than normal for their hair to grow, roots don't begin to show for months, so that is one of the Retsiona merchants' biggest sales. The naming process is random. Buildings are either brick or wooden, and most people live in apartment buildings, unless they have enough money (and enough people in their family) to build a house. They believe in the same gods that the people from Nodaiokia do, but they pray directly to their "main god". Their average life expectancy is 1276 years and their region is run by a governor by the name of Ashaaht Lessor. Significant character(s) from Lineidir: Idiemarden [Ih-dee-AY-mahr-dehn] (f)
